Required Rotation Information Needed in Annual Report

The fellowship 12-month experience must include rotations in other ICUs other than the Neuro ICU and be described in detail in the block diagram and fellow schedule in the yearly annual report. Rotations must include:

• Minimum of 6 months of Neuro ICU rotations
• Minimum of 3 months of non-Neuro ICU rotations (Trauma ICU, Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiac ICU, etc.)
• Remaining 3 months can be used for research, electives (Anesthesia, Neurodiagnostics) or additional ICU time

Subspecialty NCC Credentials

The Fellowship Program Director for any CAST Neurocritical Care fellowship must have a subspecialty credential in NCC. If the FPD is not a neurosurgeon, there must still be a neurosurgeon as part of the fellowship’s core faculty that also has a subspecialty credential in NCC, or at a minimum has passed the RFPD NCC exam.

If the subspecialty credential being used is a CAST certificate, that certificate will not be accepted as of July 1, 2027. Starting that date, you must provide either the ABNS Recognition of Focused Practice Designation (RFPD) credential (or, at minimum, have passed the RFPD exam if serving as the faculty neurosurgeon) or the equivalent UCNS or ABPN certificate.
